Yoga - An Ancient Solution for Modern Problems
By Brett McDonald
Since its conception in Vedic India some over 5000 plus years ago, yoga has become one of the world's most popular exercise routines. What began as a series of disciplines developed to lead the practitioner to spiritual enlightenment is now a cure for many of the ills of modern living.
Nowadays most people live hectic lifestyles, both professional and social.
This leads to high levels of stress and worry and a neglect of those things that can help us lead healthy lives, namely exercise and a quality diet. It seems there's no time in the day to switch off and tone up our bodies. There's no time to go to the gym or the squash court. The result is stress, fatigue and depression,
Yoga provides the solution to this problem. If offers a set of simple routines you can do at home that will help control stress, energize the mind and body and help build self confidence and self esteem. If you practice yoga regularly, you'll sleep better, work better, feel better. And all in just 30 minutes a day.
And there are physical benefits too. Other than the pleasures of serenity, practicing yoga can also result in weight loss, improved metabolism and muscle tone, pain reduction, and much more.
For example, practicing yoga can reduce blood pressure. This lowers the risk of a host of illnesses including diabetes, heart attacks and strokes. Yoga's gentle bending and stretching routines help to prevent and alleviate problems with the joints such as arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
If all this wasn't enough, Yoga is probably one of the most easily learned systems of exercise. So yoga may be millennia old but in today's modern rushed world it's more useful than it's ever been.
